This is a super sad story about a kid who seemed to have a very bright future, but it was cut short right before he was about to achieve his dream of playing college football.
There is a lot of speculation about exactly what happened, but here is what we know.
Bryce Gowdy had the world in front of him.
The 17-year-old Deerfield Beach football star was just a few days away from enrolling at Georgia Tech on a football scholarship and starting the next chapter of his life.
But Gowdy’s promising future was cut short early Monday morning when he was struck and killed by a freight train in Deerfield Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Gowdy was struck by the train about 4 a.m. Monday in the area of Southeast Fourth Avenue and Southeast 10th Street, according to a preliminary incident report from BSO.
Sheriff’s detectives are investigating Gowdy’s death. The cause and manner of death will be determined by Broward County’s medical examiner’s office, the preliminary incident report said.
He was set to head off to Ga Tech in just a couple of days because he graduated High School early so he could enroll in college early.
Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
