Thursday was an extraordinary day where No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the No. 8 Iowa Hawkeyes 89-85 in Big Ten barnburner.
“Both teams at various points had to try and hold serve, but it was Ohio State that dug out of the biggest deficit (11 points) and who wound up on top. It trailed by double figures in the second half before outscoring Iowa 39-24 over the final 14:08. By no coincidence, Iowa star Luka Garza was held scoreless during that final stretch, though he did account for three assists. Garza finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists,” via CBS Sports.
Washington Jr. set the tone hitting a clutch three with 13:16 in the second-half cutting the deficit to four points.
Kyle Young, EJ Liddell and Duane Washington Jr. combined for 48 points in a collective effort to put the Buckeyes at a 9-4 record in their conference.
With the expectations to find their rhythm in a back and forth match, the Buckeyes shot 47.7 percent from the field. The Buckeyes went 14-32 from the three-point line and out-rebounded the Hawkeyes 43-36.
Jack Nunge and Jordan Bohannon were the leading scorers for the Hawkeyes finishing with 18 points each.
