Ben Simmons forgot how to shoot.
In the regular season he mostly only shoots layups (which leads to a high FG%) but he never shoots threes and has hovered around 60% from the Free Throw line his entire career. He averages only about 11 shots a game which isn’t enough for a cornerstone franchise player.
In the playoffs, it only got worse with him only averaging around 6 shots a game and 34% from the free-throw line.
They are paying Simmons max money so he has to be better and here is his plan.
“I believe, without going into detail with what we’re doing, I believe we know what the right work is, and the right type of work, and the right way to do it,” Rivers said when asked why this offseason will be different as far as Simmons’ shooting goes.
“You can do the work all the time. But if it’s not done in the right way and the right type of work, you may not improve. After being here for a year, I really do believe we’ve identified what and how, and now we have to do the do part. We have to work to do it. It’s not going to be an easy job. But it’s definitely a job that Ben can do.”
During a Monday appearance on SportsCenter, Windhorst said no decision has been made yet, but the left-handed-shooting Simmons is ambidextrous and will weigh the drastic change over the offseason.
