Back in early April, the world lost a legend in DMX. The “Party Up” rapper suffered a heart attack from an apparent drug overdose on April 2 , as he was soon transported to a local hospital in White Plains, NY. X remained on life support for the next week, as his brain function showed no signs of improving. That left his family with the difficult decision to take him off life support, as he passed away on April 9.
There has been talks about the official cause of X’s death and now, that information is here. According to the Westchester County medical examiner’s office, this is being listed as a “cocaine-induced heart attack that caused a lack of blood circulation to his brain.”
“It was cardiac arrest for a period of time, so there was no circulation to the brain,” said a a source to Vulture.
Cocaine ended up being found in X’s body during a urine analysis. No official autopsy was conducted, but the cause of death ended up being revealed after information provided by medical professionals and police.
X’s memorial service ended up taking place at Barclays Center on April 24. The following day, another service was held for family members and friends. His team also put out his first posthumous album, “Exodus,” in May. It debuted at number eight in the US, and also had solid collabs with Nas, Jay Z, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Moneybagg Yo, Benny The Butcher, and more.
