If you are intelligent, you should already know the Patriots Way was a myth.
It is similar to how we are called the United States of America and always brag about freedom, but the country was built off slaves and isn’t united at all. The Patriots were a dynasty because they had damn good coaches and players. They lucked into a generational quarterback in Tom Brady.
That is it, nothing special or magical about it.
In fact, just like America, the Patriots have had more controversies than almost any other team over the last 20 years, including an active player who was found guilty of murder and accused of killing multiple people like he was casually playing GTA.
The Trump thing isn’t surprising, and it also it isn’t surprising the players didn’t have the balls to sit out practice.
In 2016, after then-presidential candidate Donald Trump read a letter of support from Belichick at a campaign rally, Patriots assistant coach Brian Flores told Belichick that several players were angry and that he “needed to say something” to the team. Belichick addressed the team, but it didn’t help initially. Many players felt he was being disingenuous. “It was hypocritical and out of character,” a Patriots player recalled. “I don’t think he’s an intolerant coach. He isn’t a bad guy. Bill just f—ed up and justified it in a way that he would never accept from a player.” After the meeting, a small group of Patriots players considered boycotting practice but then reconsidered.
The book, “It’s Better to Be Feared,” by ESPN senior writer Seth Wickersham will be hitting stores on October 12th.
I have no doubt it will be a good read. If you go behind the scenes of any sports franchise, you will find a lot of skeletons in the closet and bodies buried in the backyard.
Brady is coming back to New England this week, I am sure no media outlets will hype that up.
