BSO reported yesterday about a tipster contacting the Philadelphia Police to implicate Lions RB D’Andre Swift in a murder that happened in the early hours of the 4th of July.
It seems the Philly PD could clear this up immediately by just saying directly that Swift is not a suspect or person of interest in the crime, but they continue to be very vague. The first reporter that contacted them said Swift wasn’t being investigated at this time and when the NFL Network Mike Garafolo contacted them, and they said this.
We did extensive reporting on the situation the last two days. Philadelphia Police have declined to comment. Sources have indicated D’Andre Swift is not under investigation. There is an open murder case. But again, no indication Swift is a suspect.
I had spoken to the commissioner’s office before his tweet, and they had no official comment. I called back afterward and asked if I’d misunderstood or something. Was told still no comment.
I understand that it is an open case, so maybe they just don’t want to say too much, but if you are Swift, one would think you would want your name 100% cleared before the season started for the Lions.
Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell was even asked about, and he also had no comment, and when asked if he thought Swift was a suspect, he said, “Not to my knowledge.”
Swift hasn’t spoken publicly about the accusation.
Here is what we know about the murder.
Police are searching for a gunman after a man was shot and killed in West Philadelphia’s Overbrook Park neighborhood. The shooting happened around 3 a.m. Sunday on the 1300 block of Westbury Drive.
Police found a man shot in the chest and rushed him to the hospital, where he died.
No arrests have been made, but a weapon has been recovered.
According to the tipster, Swift shot the man because the man was attempting to rob him of $15k.
This might all be nothing, but still, something to keep an eye on.
