Sometimes it is best not to say anything at all.
Tony Dungy on NBC’s Football Night in America said that people should accept Gruden’s apology for his racist email about NFLPA Director’s DeMaurice Smith “Michlin Tire Lips” and move in.
A day later, a flood of more emails came out that were homophobic in nature, and Dungy again says that people should forgive Gruden.
Dungy himself has been embroiled in controversy himself about his beliefs about homosexuality.
While it happened several years ago, Dungy spent part of his social capital in 2007 raising tens of thousands of dollars to fight against marriage equality in Indiana, saying that if you’re with God, you have to be against equality for gay people. Dungy was at it again this year, publicly declaring that he wouldn’t have wanted Michael Sam on his team.
So, Dungy may have some emails or texts out there that may not have foul language but express the same sentiments.
He was clear about not wanting Michael Sam in the league, and that is something that Gruden also spoke about with more colorful language in his emails.
Social media is currently a cesspool of opinions about this, so I would stay away from the topic until everyone cools down for your mental health.
The fact of the matter is no matter what you think in 2021, Gruden had no shot of staying employed once the word f*ggot was used to describe Roger Goodell and spoke out against gay people.
If he had just stuck to racist tropes, he likely still has a job today because racism is someone that can be brushed aside, especially when so many of the others feel the same way that Gruden did about players standing up for social justice.
Dungy is getting COOKED in the comments for his tweets, so he better stay off social media for a while.
