Baker Mayfield has to take some responsibility for this.
I don’t think Mayfield is purposefully not targeting Odell Beckham Jr, but they aren’t clicking on the field for whatever reason.
All Odell can do is run the routes, the rest is up to Baker.
Mayfield talked to the media today, and to be frank, he didn’t seem that enthused about the prospect of Beckham coming back.
He actually looked very hurt by the fact Beckham’s dad posted a video showing all the times Mayfield has missed a wide-open Beckham.
“I think naturally he wants his son to succeed. I can’t blame him for that. I want Odell to succeed. So that’s where we’re at.”
“Deliberately not throwing the ball to an extremely talented player that I’ve put in a lot of work with? It’s an opinionated statement, I’ll say”.
Beckham, who hasn’t said anything negative about anyone and came to work on time, as usual, was sent home and had to listen to all these shots coming at him.
Odell Beckham Jr. might have played his final game with the Browns, as Beckham’s representation is engaged with Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry on the next steps for the wide receiver.
Beckham was told not to attend Wednesday’s practice, one day after his father posted comments on social media trashing Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday afternoon that he had not spoken to Beckham in the past 24 hours. Asked whether he was preparing to play without Beckham on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals or whether Beckham was no longer a member of the team, Stefanski said: “I would just tell you today he is excused and we will see where this goes.”
If Beckham is released the Browns would be on the hook for the rest of his salary this season if no one picks him up on waivers, but they don’t owe him anything going forward.
If he becomes a free agent, there are a few teams that could use a wide receiver. Even if he is just 80% of what he used to be, that is still very good.
