The DA keeps finding new charges to hit Henry Ruggs III.
Initially, it appeared that Ruggs III would face a maximum of 20 years in jail, but now thanks to the new charges, he is looking at 50 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
Initially charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death and reckless driving, Ruggs is now facing more than 50 years in prison after being hit with additional felony counts of DUI and reckless driving due to the injuries suffered by his passenger as well as a misdemeanor charge of possession of a firearm while under the influence.
Ruggs III is back in court today, according to TMZ Sports.
Henry Ruggs is scheduled to make his second public appearance since his fatal car crash last week — the ex-Raiders star is due in court in a matter of minutes … and he’s expected to be formally hit with five charges while there.
The 22-year-old, who’s accused of getting drunk, speeding in his car and then killing a woman and her dog in a wreck in Las Vegas last Tuesday, has a hearing slated for 7:30 AM.
Prosecutors are expected to formally announce five charges against him — including four felonies and one misdemeanor — and Ruggs could enter a plea afterward.
I am reasonably confident that Ruggs III and his attorneys will try to work out some sort of plea deal.
Without question, he should be punished for his actions because they took a life, but we want to make sure the punishment fits the crime. Some inmates have committed premeditated murder that are serving less than 50 years in jail.
If I had to guess when this is all over, Ruggs III likely gets between 1-2 years in jail, has to pay a fine, and does a lot of community service work. As far as his NFL career, that is iffy. If this happened ten years ago, I think he would get another chance, but in 2021, I can’t call it.
