They are defense attorneys for a reason.
Their job isn’t to be liked. Their job is to get their client off the hook for any crimes they are accused of. In Henry Ruggs III’s case, he can’t deny that he was going 156 MPH. The car’s computer logged that information. He can’t deny he was over the legal limit to drive, but his blood test came back and showed he was double over the limit.
So, what it appears his lawyers are trying to do is say that while he may have caused the accident, he isn’t responsible for Tina Tintor and her dog Max’s death. There are trying to throw some reasonable doubt out there by stating that the firefighters were very late to the scene, which caused her death.
Lawyers for Henry Ruggs III wrote in a court filing that a witness said firefighters were slow to extinguish a vehicle fire sparked by a deadly crash that authorities say was caused by the former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver.
Ruggs, 22, is accused of driving drunk at speeds up to 156 mph with his girlfriend in his Corvette sports car before the predawn crash Nov. 2. The team released him hours after the crash.
“Firemen did not attempt to extinguish the fire at Ms. Tintor’s vehicle for approximately 20 minutes at which time the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames,” defense attorneys David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld said in a Wednesday court filing that does not identify their witness.
Firefighters were “in a position to extinguish the vehicle fire while it was in its infancy stages and failed to do so,” the court filing said.
This is significant because if the defense can prove that Tintor and Max could have been saved, they could get Ruggs III’s charges reduced to something that likely won’t lead to jail time.
Even though the Raiders cut him, Ruggs III still made over $11 million, so he has money to fight the case.
