I don’t think you need a judge’s ruling to know the answer to this.
If the women weren’t getting paid, they would say so. The fact they were advised not to answer the question and forcing a judge to make them answer is all you need to know. It is in Watson’s best interest to have some massage therapists on his side, and one of the best ways to do that is to keep money in their pocket.
Unfortunately, now that the League of Justice has exposed it, people who already believe he is guilty have even more ammunition now.
On Monday, a Judge overseeing the Deshaun Watson discovery phase of a case involving twenty-two civil complaints filed against the Texans Quarterback issued a ruling in favor of his accusers. The ruling concerned a contentious moment that occurred during depositions with one of his longtime massage therapists who publicly defended Watson.
Jasmine Brooks, one of eighteen massage therapists to issue statements in defense of Watson back in March was deposed on December 17th by Tony Buzbee, the attorney for the women accusing Watson of various forms of sexual harassment and assault. But things got heated between Buzbee and Brooks’ lawyer when Buzbee asked her who was paying her legal fees.
While the civil cases might be more interesting to viewing public because of things like this, in regard to Watson’s future in the NFL, what happens on the criminal side is much more important.
A grand jury, at some point, will decide if he is hit with misdemeanors massage assault charges. If that happens, he is 2022 season is likely in danger. The Texans want to trade him before he draft but might not be in a position to do so if the criminal case is still pending.
Watson is owed $37 million next year, so a team wants to make sure he can actually play before trading for him.
