WNBA Brittney Griner’s wife Cherelle is speaking out about her being held hostage in Russia on drug charges. What is unsettling is that WNBA and the US Government knew for weeks that Griner was being detained but didn’t tell anyone.
No one would have known if not for the Russian media bragging about the arrest and leaking footage of when they took Griner into custody.
Here is what Griner’s wife had to say about everything that was going on.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me regarding my wife’s safe return from Russia. Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated. I love my wife wholeheartedly, so this message comes during one of the weakest moments of my life. I understand that many of you have grown to love BG over the years and have concerns and want details. Please honor our privacy as we continue to work on getting my wife home safely.
Thank you!
Here is what we know about Griner’s arrest at the moment and how close she is to being released via TMZ Sports.
She’s alleged to have had vape cartridges in her bag while traveling through an airport — and the Russian authorities even released video capturing the moment they searched her stuff.
Of course, U.S. officials are working on securing her release … only made more complicated by the fact that Putin has invaded Ukraine — and isn’t on the greatest of terms with us.
Griner has played in Russia for the last few years because they pay her 4x as much as her WNBA salary. From the information I have gathered, even though she is a proud lesbian and that is frowned about in Russia, she is pretty beloved there and has a lot of fans.
The scary part is no one exactly knows where she is being held and what those conditions are. One would hope the Russians are just doing this to annoy the American government and aren’t harming her in any way.
