Angela Bassett looked like a winner as she arrived at the 95th Academy Awards in Hollywood on Sunday afternoon.
The 64-year-old actress, who comfortably took her place among the best-dressed stars at the award show, scored her second Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
She looked like a queen in her stunning violet Moschino gown that emphasized her age-defying figure.
Angela showed off her winning smile while rocking the item, which had a bow-like top and a single voluminous shoulder covering.
The plunging look emphasized her cleavage, with a snake-shaped diamond-encrusted necklace wrapping around her throat and dangling down.
Her Moschino dress had an eye-catching ruched design around her midriff while hugging her hips, and its skirt spread out to trail slightly behind her.
She accessorized with a sparkling globe-shaped handbag, and she added some more luster to her look with a thick diamond bracelet on one wrist.
Angela wore her dark tresses styled down in thick waves resting across her shoulders.
Her Oscar nomination is her second ever, after she was nominated in 1994 for Best Actress for her lead role in the Tina Turner biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It, which costarred Laurence Fishburne as Turner’s abusive husband Ike Turner.
Now she is nominated in the supporting category for playing Ramonda, the queen of Wakanda, the hidden African nation once ruled by her late son T’Challa (previously played by Chadwick Boseman, who died of cancer in 2020).
The nomination marks the first time that a Marvel film has received an acting Oscar nomination.
While speaking with Vanessa Hudgens on the champagne carpet, Angela said that she and the rest of the cast carried on with the Black Panther sequel as a tribute to their fallen costar Boseman.
The ceremony tonight will be hosted by late night chat show host Jimmy Kimmel and is being held at its regular venue, the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
