A lawyer for a member of rapper Young Thug’s alleged Young Slime Life (YSL) gang used the phrase ‘cap’ – a slang word that indicates dishonesty – during court proceedings in the rap artist’s ongoing RICO case Monday.
Justin Hill, who is representing Damone ‘Bali’ Blalock in the criminal proceedings, was responding to a statement from the presiding judge in the case, which is being held in Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta.
In the exchange, Hill told Chief Judge Ural Glanville, ‘So I will start by saying that this assertion that I did not mention before pre argument,’ to which the judge interjected, ‘Don’t worry about that, OK – because I’d have to do it anyway.’
Hill responded, ‘OK, I was just saying that it’s not true – it’s cap, to be honest.
Hill is counsel for YSL member Blalock, chat with Atlanta-based true crime reporter George Chidi outside of the courtroom, where he explained the circumstances behind his statement.
Hill said that while ‘there is no statutory definition’ for the phrase cap, the meaning of the phrase is ‘to lie, to say something that’s not true, misrepresent, and that’s essentially what happened.’
He continued: ‘The state misrepresented something that I said – or didn’t say – and I just had to let everyone know that it wasn’t true, it was cap.’
Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, was arrested last May in connection with gang-related charges in Buckhead, Georgia.
Authorities took the Atlanta-born rapper and more than 25 associates into custody in the sweep.
The Grammy-winning performer faces a number of charges in the case, including attempted murder, participation in a criminal gang, and conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).
