Sean O’Malley Calls Out Gervonta Davis After Knocking out Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292: ‘Gonna Happen’

Sean O’Malley knocked out Aljamain Sterling in 0:51 minutes of round two at UFC 292 main event to earn the bantamweight world title. Aged 28, he is now the youngest active champion in the promotion, surpassing 30-year-old Alexa Grasso.

While it will be interesting to see who he defends his titles against next, the UFC bantamweight champion is already eyeing a potential super fight against multi-weight boxing world champion Gervonta Davis.

Davis, who is also 28 years old, holds an undefeated 29-0 pro boxing record with 27 Knockouts in his favor. ‘Tank’ knocked out Ryan Garcia in his last outing and is currently one of the most popular names in the sport.

Sean O’Malley desired to meet ‘Tank’ in the ring while denouncing Marlon Vera in the UFC 292 post-fight presser.

He said, “It’s just the way he [Marlon Vera] acts. He is so annoying, just like he is not funny and he tries to be. He is so ugly, dresses like an idiot. It’s like, ‘God, do I really need to give this guy an opportunity.”

“But then well priced, got to whoop his a**, make a lot of money. So, I could. So yeah, that could be it. Also, I wouldn’t mind knocking out Gervonta Davis and I know people are going to be ‘Oh, you wannabe Conor’. I am telling you that fight is gonna happen.”

Sean O’Malley had wanted to face Gervonta Davis even back in 2018 when he had just gotten into the UFC. Now that he is the bantamweight champion of the promotion, a potential scrap against ‘Tank’ is still on his wish list.

Who Can Sean O’Malley Face Next?

Despite teasing his first title defense against Marlon Vera in December, O’Malley can come across some other names too. As per the current 135 lbs UFC rankings, Merab Dvalishvilli, Cory Sandhagen, Henry Cejudo are also in the top-tier slot.

That said, Aljamain Sterling can also earn an immediate title shot considering his title reign. Hence, it’s hard to picture O’Malley getting in a pro boxing fight at this very point unless done in reality.
