Deshaun Watson’s Personal Coach Tweets Cryptic Message After Watson’s Loss vs Steelers

The Cleveland Browns didn’t start the season off the way fans wanted them to, and blame for it has predominantly been placed, by fans, at the feet of quarterback Deshaun Watson. The Browns went on the road in week 2 to play the Pittsburgh Steelers in primetime, Monday Night Football. After starting the game off a pick six, the Browns ultimately lost 26-22, dropping their record to 1-1. That puts them 3rd place in the AFC North, as Pittsburgh (1-1) currently holds the tiebreaker over them.

There’s been no shortage of blame going Watson’s way over his play the first two weeks of the season, but looks like his personal QB Coach Quincy Avery, took to his defense in an indirect way on Tuesday. Cleveland Sports Writer Ben Axelrod posted a screenshot of Avery quote retweeting Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs. Diggs’ tweet was presumably aimed at “couch coaches” or “couch GMs” as the saying goes on Twitter / X.

It’s possible that Avery could have meant that in defense of Watson, but his interaction with a fan down in the comments suggests otherwise.

“Why make excuses? Shut up and get DW4 better, bad play calling doesnt equal overthrows and underthrows. Quit making excuses,” Twitter user tantolik4 wrote.

The chance to get some clarity on Avery’s tweet doesn’t get any more direct than that. The coach’s initial response to that was “What are you talking about?” The rest of the thread will be posted below.

Watson posted a mere 55% completion percentage off 235 passing yards, with a low 70.1 passer rating. He looked uncomfortable from the very first snap that led to an early pick six. That was one of two turnovers Watson had Monday night, as he also fumbled the ball which T.J. Watt was able to scoop and score for their second defensive touchdown on the night.

He’ll look to bounce back this Sunday, as they play host to the Tennessee Titans at 1:00 PM EST.
