When healthy, Wilson will start for the Jets under head coach Robert Saleh, but the former No. 2 overall selection pick is not available right now. Wilson, who is still under concussion protocol, did not take part in Wednesday’s walkthrough session in Florham Park for the Jets. He was eliminated from a Week 15 road defeat to Miami late in the first half.

Saleh mentioned that Wilson might play Washington this week , “We’ll see. Everything’s improved so I’m not closing the door on that yet,”

Trevor Siemian Talks About Being Ready to Step in for Zach Wilson

Siemian will start in Wilson’s place should the seems inevitable scenario arise where Wilson does not clear the protocol before Sunday. The Jets’ final possession of the first half saw the 31-year-old veteran quarterback join the game against the Dolphins on December 17. He went on to finish the game with 14 of 26 passes for 110 yards and two interceptions. He said,

“At this point in my career, especially, any chances I get to play is awesome, so if it happens, I’ll be ready,” “If not, I’m hoping Zach’s coming back and he’s feeling alright.” “These are NFL games; these aren’t exhibition matches. I can’t tell you how important every single play is in these games,”

Siemian has made two appearances this season as a reliever, but the backup has a plenty of starting experience in the NFL. As a starting quarterback, he has a 13–17 career record, including one game played for the 2019 Jets. On September 16, 2019, Siemian started in place of the injured starter for the New York Jets against the Browns, however he was only able to complete six pass attempts before leaving the game.

Siemian’s early career with the Denver Broncos was largely successful. Over the course of two years, the 2015 seventh-round draft pick for the Broncos recorded 13 wins in 24 starts.

During a 14-game sample in 2016, Siemian passed for 3,401 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, with an 8-6 record. He has completed 58.5 percent of throws for 7,203 yards with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 42:30 in his career.

The Commanders (4-10) boast the No. 32 defense (384.5) in the 32-team NFL, while the Jets (5-9) have the lowest-ranked offense (255.1).
