This week, Al Michaels demonstrated that he is still capable of hitting 100 on the radar gun. He has received a lot of criticism for his lack of excitement during calls during “Thursday Night Football.”
The famed broadcaster lost his cool when Browns fans started pounding on garbage cans during the second quarter of the Cleveland Browns vs. New York Jets game.
After acknowledging it, the veteran play-by-play commentator launched a scathing attack on the Houston Astros.
“Somebody’s pounding on that trash can. I think the Astros must be in town.”

Throughout the 2017 season, the Houston Astros were known for pounding on garbage cans to steal signs and alert batters to the pitch’s location in real time. Many people think that their first World Series victory in franchise history was made possible by practice.
If it weren’t for former Astros pitcher Mike Fiers’s whistleblowing in 2019, no one would have known anything. Astros owner Jim Crane sacked general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch after they were suspended by MLB for several months.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred gave the players protection in return for the truth, thus none of them faced suspension. Houston made it to the American League Championship Series for the eighth time in a row this season, and they have since won the 2022 World Series.
