WATCH : Salty Matthew Stafford Shuns Lions Supporters

Matthew Stafford responds succinctly to a query regarding Lions supporters. Matthew Stafford, the former quarterback for the Detroit Lions, was not in the mood to speak well of the supporters who supported him over his 12-year career.

Lions fans heckled and jeered the 35-year-old veteran quarterback as soon as he set foot on Ford Field’s new turf for a playoff game against his old team.

What Matthew Stafford had to say about fans

Stafford responded succinctly to a question about his happiness for the City of Detroit following their elimination from the playoffs, as the supporters saw their team win a postseason game for the first time in thirty years. Stafford said ,

“I’m happy for the players. Happy for those guys,”

When talking about Jared Goff , he said

“He’s their quarterback,” “He’s playing great. He led them to a win today. I’m happy for him. I thought he played excellent today. He’s leading an offense that’s playing at a really good clip right now and they should be proud of him. They should be cheering for him.”

However, Stafford knew that the main reason he was booed was because he was a competitive guy and that he was the “bad guy” who was coming to town to try to destroy Detroit’s season in the week before the game.

He said, “It’s a playoff game,”  “I’m not surprised that they were excited about cheering for their team, and I’m not too worried about anybody’s personal feelings towards to me that was sitting in the stands.”
