Return of Kirk Cousins Probably “Isn’t a Breaking Point” for Jefferson’s Contract Extension

With numerous quarterbacks, the receiver’ still managed to get over 1,000 yards’ . Although Kirk Cousins‘ return to Minnesota may be pushed by Justin Jefferson, it might not be a deal-breaker to convince the standout receiver to sign a contract extension with the Vikings.

While making the rounds on radio row during Super Bowl week, Jefferson stated that while he wants to keep his relationship with Cousins going, it “really doesn’t matter too much” who is giving him the ball.

As Jefferson noted last week when speaking with NFL Network, he “still managed to get over 1,000 yards by playing through four different quarterbacks.”

Can a deal with Justin Jefferson be struck soon?

Jefferson caught 68 passes for 1,074 yards in just 10 games the previous season, including passes from Nick Mullens, Josh Dobbs, Jaren Hall, and Kirk Cousins.

After failing to reach an agreement on a deal with Cousins during the previous summer, Minnesota is in disarray at quarterback. Now that he is 36 years old and recovering from an Achilles injury, Cousins is expected to be a free agency. He will be heavily sought after, with national pundits saying that Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and Minnesota are the most likely destinations.

On Thursday, Darren Wolfson of KSTP told Mackey & Judd of SKOR North that he doesn’t believe Cousins’ decision to not return is “a breaking point where he won’t sign an extension here.” Wolfson said,

“The money matters more than anything. I’m sure he wants some sort of vision, some sort of plan,”

“But if the Vikings are prepared to make him darn near the highest paid non-quarterback or exceed the Nick Bosa contract to make him the highest paid non-quarterback — I promise you, he is going to sign the contract whether Kirk is here or not.”
