On March 29th, the San Antonio Spurs met the New York Knicks at home and won in overtime. Victor Wembanyama and Jalen Brunson each set career highs in their 130-126 victory over the Knicks. The Spurs’ stunning victory was rounded off by Wembanyama gripping the ball to his chest and then hurling it into the crowd, leaving former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas in splits.
The San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks put on a good show for fans in San Antonio. Victor Wembanyama had possession of the ball after the last buzzer.
Spurs supporters recognized Tim Duncan when he grabbed the ball like The Big Fundamental did before games.
However, after hugging the ball to his breast, Wemby opted to chuck it into the seats for spectators. Gilbert Arenas was in splits after sharing a clip of the game’s final moments on X. Arenas captioned the post, “Wemby CHUCKED Jalen Brunson’s 61-point ball,” with three laughing emojis.

Jalen Brunson led the game with 61 points, six assists, four rebounds, and one steal. Brunson shot 25-47 from the field, ending with a respectable 53.8%.
Now, the game ball is sacrosanct in games where Brunson scored a career-high number of points. And Gilbert Arenas was attempting to suggest that Wemby tossed Brunson’s game ball away. On the other hand, Wemby had a career-high game and won.
Victor Wembanyama finished the game with 40 points, 20 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and one block, according to Statmuse. Wemby was on his game tonight, shooting 59.1% from the field, 44.4% from beyond the arc, and 83.3% from the free throw line. Given that the Knicks did not win the game, it is safe to infer that Wembanyama did not toss away ‘Brunson’s ball’.
