The Dallas Cowboys have few choices when it comes to running backs as the 2024 NFL season draws near. The Cowboys are looking for a starting running back, either considering the return of 2023 starter Tony Pollard or looking into other options for depth, as they now only have Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis under contract.
Pollard is said to be open to returning to Dallas when he becomes a free agency next week. There are rumors circulating that he might first explore his options as a free agent, weighing offers from other organizations. He supposedly would, however, accept a counteroffer that might be less than others.
Jerry Jones said,
“I think Pollard played well,”
“He’s someone that I would have thought, looking back, that would have had more let’s say more impact for us in games we didn’t play well in.
“But that running game, of course, is a product of not only the back, but the blocking and the complete offense. When I look at him, I have done that with our coaches, and I have done that with our scouts, he played well.”
Trying to get better before the upcoming season
Even though Pollard had a difficult season and had a career-low yards per carry average, he became the team’s main running back once Ezekiel Elliott left.
His adaptable skill set let him record a career-high amount of scrimmage yards, demonstrating his worth to the Cowboys’ offensive unit. Under head coach Mike McCarthy’s direction, the Cowboys hope to enhance their rushing efficiency after placing 14th in rushing yards and 18th in yards per carry the previous campaign.
The Cowboys must make a crucial choice in order to maintain stability and productivity in the rushing game given Pollard’s uncertain future.
