The Raiders are scheduled to spend time on Friday with a potential addition and might select a quarterback early in the draft. According to SI.com’s Albert Breer, Bo Nix is expected to meet with the team. Michael Penix, a former quarterback for Washington, also paid the team a visit this week.
Nix began his collegiate career at Auburn and completed the last two seasons at Oregon. As such, he brings a wealth of experience to the NFL. With 45 throwing touchdowns and 4,508 passing yards for the Ducks last season, he shattered school records and completed over 77 percent of his passes.
Although the Raiders have Aidan O’Connell on the roster and added Gardner Minshew as a free agent this summer, rumors that they may be utilizing a high pick on another signal caller have not been dispelled.
Is Bo Nix overly gentle?
In an interview with Ryen Russillo, Nix stated that he had to travel to Oregon in order to understand that college football is simply a game. Although I would contend that perhaps the Pac-12 would still exist today if fans of college football in that area were more engaged, this is the main thrust of Nix’s criticism. He said,
“It’s almost like an unhealthy obsession in the South,” “I was that way growing up — life and death football. It’s a little bit more laid back in a way [in Oregon] … I think that’s the difference, quite frankly, what’s put into college football in the South. And out here, football’s just a game and we find joy in it.”
