Mase and Cam’ron have changed their identities to podcasters. With their sports discussion program It Is What It Is, the giants of New York rap have achieved enormous success, in part because of their ability to bring in big names for appearances. O.J. Simpson was the first guest they ever scheduled. The contentious NFL player was really one of It Is What It Is’s most regular co-hosts, thus the news of his untimely death at age 76 was deeply felt by the program. Mase and Cam paid their tributes on Instagram.
The two shared a montage of O.J. Simpson-starring episodes of It’s What It Is with a depressing message.
“We just want to say thank you to Uncle O for gracing us with your presence,” “You were definitely one of a kind, you became Uncle O to use cause it was like having a real uncle around. You were very funny and down to Earth.”
Mase and Cam then went into detail about how they initially connected with Simpson. Longtime listeners are unaware that the “Juice” was among the initial co-hosts to be considered for the program.
O.J. Simpson was praised for his humor by Cam’ron and Mase
Mase and Cam’ron thanked Simpson for his wisdom and ability to make light of himself as they wrapped up their touching letter.
“When we signed our deal the first co-host we thought about having was Uncle O,” “We said oh we gone break the internet with #OJ and that we did. You helped make our show 10x better and everyone loved you.” “We will cherish these last memories we were able to share with you,” “You will forever be apart of the It Is What It Is family.”
It is hardly unexpected that the It Is What It Is episode that aired on April 12—two days after Simpson passed away—was devoted to him. Treasure “Stat Baby” Wilson, Cam’ron, Mase, and special guest Maurice Clarett discussed the NFL star’s influence on the show in detail. They also commended his knowledge of sports and his ability to communicate clearly and frank about football.
The family of O.J. Simpson used X (previously Twitter) to confirm his passing.
