T’Vondre Sweat, a former defensive tackle for Texas and the 2023 Big 12 defensive player of the year and Outland Trophy winner, was arrested for driving under the influence and was taken to jail.
Following his arrest by Austin police, Sweat, 22, was placed into Travis County Jail on Sunday afternoon, per online records. In Texas, a Class B misdemeanor entails a maximum fine of $2,000 and a maximum sentence of 180 days in prison.
Sweat posted bond and was let out of jail. When questioned by KXAN-TV about the event, his lawyer declined to comment.
After leading Texas to its first-ever College Football Playoff berth, the 6-foot-4, 362-pound Sweat filed for the NFL draft.
Last season, he finished with 45 total tackles, two sacks, eight tackles for loss, seven quarterback hurries, and four pass breakups. Sweat was the best interior lineman in the country, winning the Outland Trophy.
Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN ranks Sweat as the third defensive lineman prospect for the upcoming NFL draft, behind Braden Fiske of Florida State and Byron Murphy of Texas.
