The already tumultuous relationship between Russell Westbrook and Skip Bayless has only gotten worse. The 2017 MVP was recently criticized by the sports analyst, who would not accept that he was an NBA seasoned leader. The league’s supporters were taken aback by this, and conversations about it began everywhere.
Bayless minimized Westbrook’s leadership abilities on UNDISPUTED, drawing comparisons to Patrick Beverley. The 72-year-old commentator drew attention to the fact that the Los Angeles Lakers players shared a lot of experienced traits. But he identified a crucial distinction between their methods and stated:
“Speaking of those two guys, they have a lot in common, Pat and Russ to me. They both have that dog in them. But Russ’ dog is a ‘me’ dog as opposed to an ‘us’ dog. To me, he is more of a solo act… You were saying all last year that he is a leader in the Clippers. I’m like, ‘Russell Westbrook is a leader?’”.
Skip Bayless talks about Russell Westbrook
To cast more doubt on Brodie’s talents, Bayless even minimized his gaming earlier in the episode. Thinking back to his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he talked about how Russell Westbrook was never as good as his colleagues at the time, James Harden and Kevin Durant. In stating his position, the expert said,
“I’m from Oklahoma City and when that team rose up… I just couldn’t get my arms around Russ. KD, yeah big fan…James Harden, yeah, he was a lethal sixth man for the team… But Russ drove me crazier… I’ve been anti-Russ from the start. I have got nothing personal against him but when you’re a high volume 3-point shooter, and you’re around 30% for your career, it’s hard to live with that”.
