Victor Wembanyama can control both ends of the basketball court thanks to his 7’3″ stature. Sometimes, opponents may find his enormous stature and exceptional agility to be too much to handle. But there are drawbacks to his bulk as well. Because their lower bodies are more susceptible to the strain of playing up-and-down basketball, large athletes are typically more prone to injuries. Wembanyama receives specialized instruction as a result.
During an interview with HugoDécrypte – Grands formats, a French YouTube show, Wemby talked about how his training regimen has been modified to lower the danger of injury. According to the 2024 ROTY, he is still working on developing new training models that will best utilize his special set of skills.
Wemby on how he trains:
“I have a different body, so I can’t work in the same way. We see weaknesses in injury-prone players: too muscular, too aerial, not stable enough… I’m trying to find new ways to train while maintaining my body’s natural harmony.”

“What I’ve learned in the recent months is that I have a different body. I can’t work in the same way, I can’t do what works for normal people on my body. I am really trying to find new ways of working, but while keeping a sort of harmony in the body.”

However, he also wants to gain a thorough understanding of his body, so he doesn’t want to go overboard.
“Trying to be gracious because injury prone profiles are the profile where we see that there are some malfunctions. Sometimes too muscular, sometimes not. Too much on the toes, too aerial, not stable enough, lots of things,”
In order to distribute the pressure his body absorbs and prevent injury, Wemby must first determine what kind of build is best for him. For instance, excessive muscle mass can put more strain on his lower body and raise the risk of injury.
In the meantime, he risks becoming overly delicate if he keeps getting thinner.
Thus, the 20-year-old’s top priority is to establish the ideal balance for his body that will reduce the possibility of injuries while maintaining a high level of competition.
