The Rams and Lions’ Sunday Night Football game appeared set for overtime drama, as Detroit emerged victorious 26–20 in a thrilling victory. The Lions won thanks to an overtime possession that culminated in David Montgomery’s one-yard touchdown run. For former NFL wide receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, though, the opening stretch of the contest was less thrilling.
He continued to disparage the first part, adding, “It was a snoozefest,” because of this. Both teams’ offensive were so slow that the scoreboard hardly moved, with the Rams leading 7-3.
Johnson revealed on “Nightcap” that he was hoping for spectacular plays from the team’s offensive line, which included Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp, but he ended up nodding off as the Rams and Lions both had trouble keeping up their cadence.
Remarkably, the former wide receiver said that there were lots of thrills in the second half. The Lions sprang to life as the game swiftly gained up speed. Johnson gave his explanation while complimenting head coach Dan Campbell’s team for their physicality and resiliency. In spite of early losses to important players like Puka Nacua and Jameson Williams, the Lions turned the tide and prevailed in their Week 1 matchup.
But for Johnson, the Lions’ victory wasn’t enough on its own. To him, it was a sign of greater things to come in Detroit.
