“Fighter” Derrick Rose Receives a Heartfelt Note From Dwight Howard

After 15 seasons in the NBA, Derrick Rose declared his retirement on Thursday. The veteran guard was dismissed by the Grizzlies two days prior, and it appears that he informed the franchise that he intended to put up his boots. Social media was flooded with tributes for the three-time All-Star, including one from Dwight Howard, who wrote the guard a touching note.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year praised Rose for persevering through his injury struggles and commended him on a career well played. He penned: “Congrats on an Amazing Career Rose [muscle emoji] people don’t realize the average career of an NBA player is 4.5 years so for you to play 16 seasons despite what you went through with injuries shows how much of a fighter you were !… We had some of the funniest moments, commercials, and tours in the NBA [laughing emoji] enjoy retirement brother.”

Dwight Howard’s respectful homage to his “brother” Derrick Rose

Howard included a collage of images and movies with his sincere message. The first picture showed the two of them together, with Rose attempting a layup and the former Magic man leaping to stop the picture from being taken.

In the second, Howard demonstrated how to use a straightforward ruse to mislead the guard in a video. Rose, the center, knocked on the point guard’s door before his first All-Star game and ran off, filming his bewildered response.

There were further pictures and videos in addition to these, one of which included them both in an Adidas commercial. The controversial video from the 2012 All-Star Game’s opening is the one that sticks out the most.

Howard is among the Eastern Conference starters that can be seen dancing on stage in it.
