The San Francisco 49ers’ 2024 season has drastically changed as a result of the team’s ongoing injury problems. More devastating news was revealed during Sunday’s Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs when star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was taken off the field with what is believed to be a ruptured ACL. The 49ers, who are already having trouble with a 3–4 record, could lose one of their most dependable offensive weapons.
This season, the 49ers have seen many setbacks, particularly at the wide receiver position. Jauan Jennings missed the entire game because of a hip injury, and Deebo Samuel had to leave the game against the Chiefs because of illness. Even before Aiyuk’s tragic injury, this put the San Francisco offensive in a precarious situation.
How crucial is Brandon Aiyuk for 49ers ?
After what looked to be a serious knee injury during the second quarter of the game, Brandon Aiyuk was brought to the medical tent. Aiyuk pointed to his right knee as he spoke with the medical team as the star wideout was eventually taken off the field. Although more testing is necessary to determine the full degree of the damage, the initial concern is that Aiyuk has torn his ACL.
#49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk is feared to have a torn right ACL in his knee. More tests will come to confirm that that’s the concern, per Kyle Shanahan.

The 49ers are concerned that Aiyuk’s injury may be a ruptured ACL, head coach Kyle Shanahan told the reporters after the game. Aiyuk might miss the rest of the season if such concerns turn out to be true.
Aiyuk had already recorded two catches for 23 yards before departing the game, bringing his season total to 23 receptions for 351 yards.
For a 49ers offense that has struggled with consistency in 2024, Aiyuk’s absence would be a devastating blow. Aiyuk is one of the team’s best playmakers, and his quickness and route-running have been essential to the passing game’s survival. San Francisco will have to rely on a younger bunch of wide outs to fill the vacuum in his absence.
