There’s a reason why Cam Ward‘s name was called first in a draft class that included well-known players like Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty, Shedeur Sanders, and Jaxson Dart. Due in large part to his combination of intangibles like production and leadership, the Miami alumnus, who was selected by the Tennessee Titans (No. 1 overall), has been widely predicted by pundits to be the most complete quarterback of the group.
Even though he is now the center of attention and Tennessee’s uncontested quarterback, Ward acknowledged that the NFL wasn’t always his first choice. It wasn’t even his first love, in actuality.
Basketball was Ward’s true childhood dream, he disclosed on Bussin’ With The Boys. He clarified: “I think I love [football] more now because it wasn’t my first love. I was a big-time basketball player growing up, that’s really all I wanted to do,”
“Every day I’m constantly learning something different, whether it’s about myself, what I need to get better at, or just in offense in particular,”
“And then, you know, just over time, football just became better to me. The atmosphere, the crowd, the enthusiasm, everybody plays with… I just think there’s nothing in this world like football,”
The Titans rookie went on to say that what makes him hungry now is his unusual journey. Because Ward’s journey was more of a gradual embrace, whereas some of his friends were destined for football glory from middle school onward.
