The amusing moniker “the young hos” (short for “the young hoes”) was recently given to Lauren Betts and the rest of the Washington Mystics players in the locker room.
The squad’s youth is the source of the nickname. Aaliyah Edwards, a teammate, proudly revealed the genesis of the new moniker when former WNBA player Sue Bird asked if they had good chemistry on the Bird’s Eye View podcast.
The roster embraces its status as the WNBA’s youngest squad.
Edwards mentioned that in order to push their energy “to another level,” they upgraded from being known as “Young and Turnt” to “Young Hos.”
The name is part of a larger Gen Z viral trend on TikTok, when creators jokingly adopt common “low-patience” or chaotic behaviors.
