Tennessee WNBA star Ruby Whitehorn has been arrested for domestic violence and burglary.
It’s some crazy stuff. I mean, we always see these athletes killing it on the court, but you never really know what’s going on behind the scenes, you know?
Citing court records, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported that cops responded to a domestic dispute call involving Whitehorn on 4:18pm on August 8.
Whitehorn has been accused of kicking in both the bedroom door and front door of the victim’s home, while a mirror was also found shattered in the bedroom.
The fight is alleged to have begun after the victim saw Whitehorn in the parking lot and heard glass break outside of her residence.
The pair then began fighting before the victim ultimately ran inside with what she believed to her phone and locked the door behind her, according to the police report.
However, the victim had actually taken Whitehorn’s phone, and the basketball player allegedly resorted to ‘chasing her upstairs’ after kicking in the front door.
From there, Whitehorn is alleged to have also kicked in the victim’s bedroom door and smashed a glass mirror in the bedroom before taking her phone and leaving.
The victim has claimed she was ‘in complete fear that Ruby was going to harm her while she was inside the house,’ the report read.
Whitehorn, meanwhile, claimed she was ‘trying to defend herself and ‘just getting her property back’ – accusing the victim of also taking her passport from her before going inside.
Whitehorn also claimed that the victim began fighting her in the parking lot as she tried to leave, while the victim provided video evidence to cops of Whitehorn entering her home.
Ultimately, police determined that Whitehorn was the aggressor in the situation, and booked her on the aggravated burglary and domestic assault charges – both of which are felonies.
Neither Whitehorn nor the victim had visible injuries at the scene, cops said.
A Tennessee spokesperson told the Knoxville News Sentinel: ‘We are aware of the situation and are continuing to gather additional information.’
It’s a shame to see someone with so much talent getting caught up in something like this. We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out, but it just goes to show that you never really know what’s going on in someone’s life.
