Mark Sanchez, the 38-year-old former New York Jets quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst, was arrested early this morning on three misdemeanor charges following a violent altercation that left him stabbed in the chest. The incident unfolded just after 12:30 a.m. in the 300 block of West Washington Street, near Loughmiller’s Pub & Eatery in downtown Indianapolis, where Sanchez was in town to broadcast Sunday’s Indianapolis Colts game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
According to police reports, the brawl involved Sanchez and an unidentified food delivery driver who was making a drop-off in a nearby alley. The driver claimed Sanchez confronted him aggressively, ordering him to leave and prohibiting him from parking there before deploying pepper spray on him. In what the driver described as self-defense, he allegedly stabbed Sanchez during the ensuing fight, asserting that Sanchez was the initial aggressor. Sanchez was reportedly uncooperative with responding Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers at the scene.
Sanchez was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of his chest wound and is currently in stable condition, recovering under medical care. While at the hospital, IMPD arrested him on charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication—all misdemeanors—after further investigation into the altercation. No arrests have been made regarding the delivery driver at this time.
Fox Sports, Sanchez’s employer, released a statement expressing support: “Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition. We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.” As a result, Sanchez will not be calling the Colts-Raiders game.
IMPD has described the situation as ongoing, with detectives continuing to review evidence, including witness statements and potential surveillance footage. Sanchez, who last played in the NFL in 2018 after stints with the Jets, Eagles, Cowboys, and Washington, has not issued a public comment. This story is developing, and further updates are expected as more details emerge.
