Federal agents accuse Rozier of sharing confidential information that allegedly influenced betting markets in a March 2023 game. Billups reportedly took part in unregulated poker games tied to organized crime networks. Both deny wrongdoing and remain on administrative leave.
The league is now reassessing the role of player-based prop bets after sportsbooks noticed suspicious wagering patterns tied to Rozier’s game stats. Lawmakers in Washington have also demanded answers from the NBA, calling for “immediate reforms to protect the integrity of professional sports.”
The league faces intense pressure from Congress to answer how it failed to block the misconduct earlier and how it plans to regain public trust. The incident has intensified debate over how deeply gambling is entwined with modern sports culture.
