Russell Wilson is currently standing at one of the weirdest career crossroads imaginable. On one side, there’s a possible contract with the New York Jets to back up Geno Smith. On the other side, there’s television money, fancy suits, studio lights, and the chance to spend Sundays talking instead of getting tackled by 300-pound defensive linemen.
Honestly, can you blame him for thinking this over?
According to reports, Wilson recently met with the Jets about potentially joining the team as a backup quarterback.
Meanwhile, reports also say Wilson has been talking with CBS Sports about becoming an NFL studio analyst. And suddenly, this man’s future feels less like a football story and more like an episode of “Career Day: Midlife Crisis Edition.”

“It was great,” Wilson told the New York Post on Wednesday at BTIG Charity Day in New York. “They offered me, and I’m trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do. I still know I can play ball at a high level, but I also have the opportunity to do TV, so we’ll see what happens.”
Wilson made $10.5 million last season on a one-year contract with the New York Giants, who benched him after an 0-3 start to the campaign. He’d probably make less than half that amount from the Jets.
The Jets have made it clear that Smith is their starter. They solicited Smith’s input on potential backups, and he spoke highly of Wilson. They were teammates for three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.
At 37 years old, Wilson has already built a career most quarterbacks would dream about. Now he just has to decide whether he wants more football bruises or whether he’d rather argue about football from an air-conditioned studio while wearing expensive suits. Honestly, both options sound better.
