The NBA playoffs are stressful enough. Bricks, turnovers, blown leads, fans screaming online like they’re assistant coaches. But somehow, Angel Reese managed to turn a random playoff dunk into relationship drama with extra seasoning on top. And now Sophie Cunningham is apparently over it.
The chaos started when Reese reposted a clip of her ex-boyfriend Jalen Duren getting baptized at the rim during the 2026 NBA Playoffs between the Detroit Pistons and the Orlando Magic.
Now look, NBA players get dunked on every day. It’s practically a league tradition. If you play enough defense, eventually somebody is going to turn you into a meme. That’s basketball, but the internet immediately grabbed Reese’s repost and treated it like a federal investigation.
People started saying she was throwing shade at Duren to impress current boyfriend Wendell Carter Jr., who just happens to play for Orlando.
Enter Sophie Cunningham.
Cunningham basically delivered the online equivalent of “girl, please move on.” And honestly? The internet ate it up like free samples at Costco.
The reaction eventually carried over into Cunningham’s podcast, Show Me Something, where the Fever guard openly questioned Reese’s decision to post the clip.
“Something had to have happened for [Reese] to keep, I don’t know, wanting to embarrass him in some way,” Cunningham said while discussing the situation.
When co-host West Wilson suggested there may not have been any bad blood between Reese and Duren, Cunningham responded bluntly: “But then move on! Worry about the current boyfriend.”
Cunningham’s comments definitely added gasoline to the fire. She basically told Reese to stop looking backward and focus on her current situation. Simple advice. Brutal delivery.
Now the internet is waiting for the next chapter. Maybe another repost, maybe a cryptic tweet shading Sophie Cunningham.
In 2026, playoff basketball apparently comes with bonus reality TV episodes.
