After a heated exchange after Indiana’s 100-84 defeat to Portland on Saturday, Fever star Caitlin Clark and coach Stephanie White responded to inquiries about their relationship by saying there are no problems between them.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Clark stated that the squad was in the midst of a crushing defeat on Saturday that left it at 4-4 and that they are just two competitive individuals who want to win.
Clark stated:
“A lot of those things happen all the time, and I know there’s a camera on me, and that’s how it’s going to be,”
“But there’s a lot of people out there in the media or on TV that they think they know a lot of things and they’re just blatantly wrong about a lot of things.”
Clark was seated right in front of White when she spoke to the players during a timeout. As she continued to speak, White seemed to be making a point by pointing to Clark with her finger.
In what appeared to be a protective stance, Clark extended her arms to the side and then raised them. Later, the two-time All-Star got up, walked behind White, and shook her head.
“It’s just another example of what everybody, all of you, want to blow up and make something that is just lost and not in reality”. “When I got hurt at the Connecticut game last year, I bawled in Steph’s arms. That’s somebody I will ride for for the rest of my life. People that just sit on their phones all day, they don’t see those moments.”
White stated unequivocally that the incident is not a story. She claims that social media and an effort to increase internet readership have exaggerated the situation. Both are emotional individuals who want the best for each other and the team, White emphasized, adding that these kinds of circumstances occur in every sport and in all spheres of life.
