If you’re looking for proof that Victor Wembanyama has arrived as a true NBA superstar, forget the stats, forget the hhighlighs, forget the impossible blocks and the shots that seem to come from somewhere near the ceiling of Madison Square Garden.
The real sign of greatness? Knicks fans officially can’t stand him.
After leading the San Antonio Spurs to a Game 3 win and breathing life back into the NBA Finals, Wembanyama found himself answering questions about becoming New York’s newest basketball villain. And honestly, that’s probably the highest compliment a visiting player can receive in the postseason.

SportsCenter shared Victor Wembanyama’s answer when he was asked if becoming a villain for Knicks fans should be taken as a compliment.
“I guess. I’m nowhere near Trae Young’s level, though,” Wembanyama said after the game.
When reporters brought up the comparison, Wembanyama seemed to understand exactly what it meant.
"I'm nowhere near Trae Young level though." 😂

In New York, becoming the target of Madison Square Garden isn’t an insult. It’s practically a trophy.
Wembanyama was everywhere in Game 3. He protected the rim, knocked down big shots, and constantly found ways to disrupt New York’s rhythm. Every time the Knicks looked ready to make a run, the 7-foot-4 superstar showed up to ruin the mood.
Now Knicks fans have a new face to yell at whenever things go wrong.
The funny part? That probably means he’s doing his job perfectly. Trae Young knows the feeling.
And after Game 3, Victor Wembanyama might be next in line for honorary membership in New York’s Most Hated Basketball Players Club.
