Egypt coach Hossam Hassan reportedly found himself in the middle of a family drama that sounds less like a football story and more like an episode of reality TV.

The veteran football boss was enjoying some downtime on Egypt’s glamorous North Coast. The setting was supposed to be relaxing. Sun, luxury, good food, and probably enough peace to forget about football for a few hours.

Then things allegedly went sideways.

According to reports, Hassan was inside a luxury hotel café in Porto Marina when his two wives reportedly got into a heated fight. What started the argument is unclear. What is clear is that the situation allegedly became so intense that Hassan collapsed after suffering extreme stress.

That is one way to ruin a vacation.

An argument between his long-term wife Howaida Al-Gharbawi and second wife Dina “Dan Adam” Mustafa took place in a hotel bar, which then escalated into a physical fight in front of shocked onlookers.

Relatives quickly got involved, with security then called.

Both women were left with cuts and bruises.

The stress of the public showdown proved too much for Hassan, who, according to Al Arabiya, fainted as he attempted to stop the confrontation.

But as per Sky News Arabia, his lawyer denied what he described as rumours that he had suffered a health crisis and stated that he was in good health.

Most people worry about traffic, sunburn, or a hotel bill when visiting the North Coast. Hassan apparently had to worry about whether his family gathering would turn into a boxing event.

In the aftermath, the Egypt manager is said to have divorced his first wife, Howaida.

He officially signed the divorce papers at a legal registrar’s office in Cairo.

Hassan had been with Howaida for decades prior to their sudden split and the pair have three children.

Mohamed Shams, legal representative for second wife Dan Adam, told Sky News Arabia: “We hoped it wouldn’t come to divorce, but things escalated to this level.”

Shams also stated that his client suffered a “premeditated attack” during the Porto Marina holiday.

In contrast to the public spats, Ahmed Hamad, lawyer for the family of first wife Howaida, declined to discuss details of the separation, stating that the family is maintaining media silence for the time being.

For Hassan, the lesson may be simple: sometimes the hardest battle is not on the football pitch.

He may spend his working life telling players to keep their heads in the game. During this particular vacation, keeping his own head might have been the bigger challenge.

One thing is certain: Porto Marina was supposed to provide a relaxing escape. Instead, it delivered football drama without a football in sight.
