Megan Thee Stallion has a message for the music industry, and she did not exactly wrap it in bubble wrap.
The “Mamushi” rapper recently shared her thoughts on fame, talent, and some of the questionable songs that somehow manage to become massive hits. Speaking on the “IMO” podcast with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, Megan suggested that the internet has made it much easier for people with mediocre music to become famous.
And honestly, the internet probably knows exactly what she means.
Around the 34-minute mark of the episode, the three-time Grammy winner opened up about how much her career has changed. After years of releasing music and constantly working in the studio, including her 2024 album, Megan, she said she can finally relax a little.
That sounds nice. Imagine being able to enter the studio without feeling like the entire planet is waiting for another hit.
Meanwhile, somewhere online, someone is recording a song on a phone with questionable lyrics and somehow preparing to become a superstar by Friday.
Robinson expressed that “a lot of people want the fame without the hard work that goes into it,” and Megan agreed.
“I mean, honestly, it’s a little bit easier to do that, though, now. You can go viral on Instagram and have a terrible song,” she said.
When asked if the attention lasts, Megan replied, “Sometimes, and sometimes not.”
“The internet has made it really easy to be famous. Good or bad,” she continued. “I think you can tell the difference between people who really love what they do and people who just want to be famous. I feel like I fall on the side of, I really love what I do.”
This week, the “Bigger In Texas” artist confirmed her fourth studio album, Megan: Act III, is arriving later this year via her Hot Girl Productions imprint, which she founded in 2023 after a public dispute with her former label, 1501 Certified Entertainment.
Megan has clearly earned her place. She has spent years proving herself and collecting major awards along the way. So when she questions whether everyone who becomes famous is naturally gifted, she is speaking from experience.
