By now you have either seen or heard about Robert Horry telling Tracy McGrady he can’t borrow one of his 7 championship rings on ESPN’s “The Jump”. Not one to backdown, McGrady had a clever response for Horry. In a video with TMZ Sports McGrady said the following:
I can understand how people take things but I’ll say this … anybody can be a champion, everybody can’t be a Hall of Famer.
Championships are a function of a team’s ability to execute at the highest level. Even in basketball where a single player can have a tremendous amount of influence on the outcome of a game. The lack of championships should never be used as the defining criteria in determining how good a player is.
