The Thunder beat the Nets 122-104 Monday night in Brooklyn and Russell Westbrook notched his league leading 33rd triple double of the season. The win by the Thunder was the first road win by the squad in quite some time. Westbrook talked to the media following the game about what it takes to win on the road in the NBA and why road wins are key to a title run.
The Thunder are currently in sixth place in the west but only 2.5 games out of fifth. Plus with the injuries that top seeds Golden State and San Antonio are dealing with anything is possible. At the beginning of the season with the loss of former MVP Kevin Durant nobody knew what to expect from this Thunder squad. Westbrook is proven and has a motor like no other but what about these role players that seemingly don’t fit. Guys like Kanter, Abrines and newcomers at the trade deadline like Doug McDermott.
With Russ leading the way the Thunder are feeding off his ferocity. Taj Gibson is meshing well as a new team member, Victor Oladipo has been playing extremely well. Adams and Roberson have been largely consistent defensively. Kanter, Abrines and McDermott provide serious scoring and spacing when they are clicking. While a title run is still a long shot, don’t be too surprised if this Thunder team gives a top seeded playoff team fits.
