Nipsey Hussle will live on in the memories of students at Crete Academy.
On Sunday, the Crenshaw District charter school officially cut the ribbon on a new basketball court baring the image of Hussle. The mural project, which was painted by Gustavo Zermeno, came to life courtesy of Venice Basketball League CEO, Nick Ansom while Crete Founder said his dedication and service to the community is inspiring.
For our kids to look at Nipsy and see to see everything he’s done, what he was able to accomplish and how much he gave back to the community is huge for them…because he looks like them. He grew up where they grew up. He’s the epitome of everything that they want to be and aspire to be.
Hussle’s father, sister and other family members were on hand to cut the ribbon and receive words of love and consolation from event hosts and attendees. In addition to the court unveiling, NFL Hall of Famer Terrell Owens and ex-Laker Nick “Swaggy P” Young participated in an All-Star basketball game to the delight of the Crete School families and children in attendence.
The event was limited to students of the school, their families, invited guests and the press.
