Voluntary workouts for NFL teams have now begun after the 2019 schedules were released. There’s more drama in the Jaguars locker room as Cornerback Jalen Ramsey hasn’t reported to these workouts. This is getting criticism from Jacksonville Executive VP of Football Operations Tom Coughlin.
“We’re very close to 100 percent attendance, and, quite frankly, our players should be here building the concept of team, working hard side-by-side, constructing our bond of togetherness, formulating our collective priorities and goals,” Coughlin said. “Success in the NFL demands struggle. Those who have everything given to them become lazy, selfish and insensitive to the real values of team. The hard work that many try to avoid is the major building block for the development of an outstanding football team.”
This has since drawn a quick response from Ramsey and his agent, David Mulugheta. Mulugheta said that Ramsey is spending time with his daughter and training back home. He added that the Jags are fully aware of why he’s not at the workouts. Ramsey also stated that Jacksonville is aware of the situation and know the exact reasons for why he’s not there.
These workouts are “voluntary” and Ramsey is still working out and handling business while still seeing his family. This shouldn’t be an issue until the workouts become mandatory. It’ll be interesting to see how Ramsey bounces back this season as he only had three interceptions in 2018. Jacksonville also finished 5-11 after having high exceptions following a 2017 season where they made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game.
