Before we get to Jarell, I want people to know about Jamie Rohrs.
Rohrs and his girlfriend Patricia took their children to the midnight “Dark Knight” première in Aurora, CO. When the shots rang out he was holding his 4 month old son Ethan who began to cry, so he ditches his baby on the floor, runs out, jumps off a balcony, gets in his truck, and leaves his girlfriend and their children.
I don’t know if there is a law that Rohrs can be charged with, but I have no shame in saying I hope some STREET JUSTICE is taken against him. I wouldn’t feel bad at all about it.
His version of events differ and he ended up proposing to Patricia in the hospital and she said yes. She might want to think long and hard about that. While even if Rohrs laid his child down on the floor to protect him (not buying it), why did he leave the theater not knowing if they were dead or alive? Still haven’t gotten a good explanation for that.
Luckily for Patricia a real man stepped up to the plate and put his life on the line to save her and her kids.
Amid the terrifying shooting spree that happened in Aurora, Colorado during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises, Jarell Brooks, 19, scrambled to get out of the packed movie theater. He stopped when he noticed a young mother who was frantically trying to save her two young kids.
Instead of running out the exits, Jarrell stopped and helped the woman, Patricia Legarreta. He then crawled on top of her and tried to push her to safety.
“At the end of the aisle, I ran into a woman. She yelled, ‘My kids!’ and I saw she had two young kids with her,” he told ABC News. “I made sure they got in the aisle and pushed behind her to make sure she got out of there.”
Then, Jarell felt a bullet strike his thigh, which forced him to the ground. Patricia also got shot.
Jarell told ABC News that the bullet that struck his leg could have hit Patricia’s 4-month-old infant if not for his body covering the family. But he refuses to be called a hero.
Jarell says he isn’t a hero, but I will say it for him. It is hard to say how any of us would react in that situation, I hope I would have done the same, but actions speak louder than words.
This young man’s action should make us all understand we can do better.
Vanessa and JR Rider has set up a fund to help Jarell’s recovery please give whatever you can. Here is what they had to say.
When I heard of this timeline of events I went from bothered, to livid, to happy, to wanting to donate to this hero! First I wanted to find him and donate to him personally. Then I got the idea of starting an indiegogo.com campaign for him. I reached out to him and his mother on Facebook and we set everything up! I believe the reason this hit me hard was because of the children involved, also because of the act of heroism that when I speak or write about I get teary eyed! Jarell Brooks should be recognized and me and my husband are going to personally donate and make sure he gets at least $10,000. We will cover the difference of whatever the campaign doesn’t raise. That will cover Jarell’s recovery process and this young man is eager to begin college in the fall!
I wrote about Jarell and his mother Eirz Scott, who deserves as much recognition, for raising such a fine young man, under “future stars” of the Sky Rider Foundation.
