Lawrence Taylor, a linebacker for the New York Giants Hall of Fame, was just released from the hospital after a stay due to a stomach ailment, according to his lawyer on Tuesday.
After being admitted to the hospital in Morristown, New Jersey, since April 20, Taylor is heading home to Florida, according to an email sent to The Associated Press by Mark Eiglarsh. The 67-year-old thanked the Morristown Medical Center staff, according to Eiglarsh:
“He is grateful to now be on the road to recovery and hopes to be back on the golf course soon,”
“Mr. Taylor would also like to sincerely thank everyone for the outpouring of love, support and prayers. Knowing that so many people were thinking of him and praying for his recovery gave him strength and helped carry him through a very challenging time.”
Taylor played for the Giants for the entirety of his 13-year NFL career, from 1981 to 1993. He was an eight-time AP All-Pro selection, won MVP in 1986, and helped them win the Super Bowl twice.
In 1999, he was admitted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, and the team retired his No. 56.
In 2011, Taylor entered a guilty plea to minor criminal charges of sexual misconduct and soliciting an underage prostitute in New York following his football career. He was prosecuted in Florida in 2021 and 2024 with neglecting to update his address on the state’s registry after receiving a six-year probationary term and being required to register as a sexual offender.
