Cameron Newton has been under fire all season and we’ve chronicled it here at BSO.
After a week of movie watching, kicking back with family, and go-kart racing, you would think Cam’s disposition after games would change.
Unfortunately Cam gets worse by the week.
Today after a 19-14 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Cameron questioned his coaches and even offered up a suggestion box of things to could help the team according to USA Today.
“The past couple of games has been the same script, by the same director … it’s kind of getting boring,” Newton said. “This taste, this vibe … I’m not buying it. And I don’t know what it is, but something’s gotta change. Something’s going to have to change real fast.”
Cam didn’t necessarily have a bad game today.
He was 21 of 37 for 233 yards and a touchdown with one interception.
Newton for the first time I can recall, spoke out about the unbalance in the offense and lack of running game.
“I’m not the playcaller. If I’m speaking for [offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski], you gotta keep a balanced offense,” he said when a reporter asked about the pass-heavy game. “When we run the football, it hasn’t been exciting like we’ve wanted it to be, but you gotta call the plays. We gotta be more balanced. It’s evident.”
“We just find a way to keep a game close and wait to see what happens at the end. I’m getting tired of it. That’s not a formula to win; domination is a formula to win.
“Everybody’s looking at it, it’s just not me. I feel like the Carolina Panthers are in a situation where we find a way to keep it close. Whether it’s me, I don’t know. Whether it’s the coordinator, I don’t know. Whether it’s the players overall, I don’t know. But we gotta change that. I’m looking forward to a game where we put up 35 points. Everybody does.”
“Whether it’s the execution, you can point out a lot of things that can come to us being defeated, but this is not it. This is not it. I’m not going to accept it. But I’m only going to control what I can control, and that is myself.”
Newton after that long rant, even went into smart ass mode and offered a suggestion box to the media to see if they could help make things better.
Cam must do a better job of being accountable for himself and handling his business accordingly.
I can speak for the fact that yes the play calling is atrocious.
A Robert Littal would say, the Panthers have to running backs who combined are guaranteed over $50 million, and they both only get 3 or 4 carries a game a piece.
Something has to give but I hope it’s not Cameron.
I’s bad enough people try to compare him to Vince Young.
I hope the Panthers don’t feel they need to move on from Newton, instead they should focus on building around him and utilizing the weapons they do have.
