One small problem and it has nothing to do with Lance blowing in LeBron’s ear. The Heat simply don’t have the money to pay top tier free agents in a market where Jodie Meeks is almost getting $7 million a year.
Here is what Bleacher Report had to say about the Heat and Stephenson.
ESPN’s Dan LeBatard reported Wednesday on his radio show on The Ticket in Miami—and Bleacher Report later confirmed—they even inquired about Indiana’s Lance Stephenson, but they weren’t offering nearly as much as the five years and $44 million that Stephenson turned down from the Pacers.
The day LeBron said he wasn’t taking anything less than the max the Heat were in trouble. Young players who don’t have the financial security of older or superstar players can’t afford to take short money just to be LeBron’s sidekicks, especially when they aren’t even sure LeBron is coming back to the Heat.
Don’t expect any player to sign with Heat until LeBron, Wade and Bosh have made their final decisions.
