I don’t think Mark Sanchez is bad, he isn’t great, but he is just in New York.
Here is a comparison to explain what I mean.
Josh Freeman is 17-23 as starter. 60% completion, 51 TDs, 46 Ints & 79 Career rating.
Mark Sanchez is 27-20 as a starter. 55% completion, 55 TDs, 51 Ints & 73 Career rating.
No one outside of Tampa Bay cares about Josh Freeman and his curl, but everyone has something to say about Sanchez. The gift and the curse of playing in the NYC. Here is what Boomer Esiason had to say.
“If you watched Mark Sanchez the last month of the season, he was like a chihuahua standing on Madison Avenue and 36th Street entering the Midtown Tunnel, eyes bigger than you know what, and just so shaky,” the former Jets quarterback told Boston-based radio station WEEI.
When ESPNNewYork.com reached Esiason for clarification on his chihuahua reference, the CBS analyst said it wasn’t a shot at Sanchez’s Mexican-American heritage.
“I chose a small dog that always looks shaken and has big eyes, and doesn’t like big things – a chihuahua. It’s a skittish dog and he’s been a skittish player,” Esiason said.
Sanchez is a young QB, you don’t pull the plug just yet. We will see what he is made of in 2012 and if he can be a big dog or not.
